Welcome to Index Tools. Index Tools is a FrameMaker plug-in that 
provides the following tools for working with FrameMaker indexes:

- Merge Index -- Reduces the size of indexes
- Add Continueds -- Automatically adds "continued" lines to indexes


What's new
----------
Version 1.2 of Index Tools provides support for FrameMaker 6. It also 
supports the new "Tools" framework used by Silicon Prairie tools.

This package contains the following items:

FrameMaker 6.x components:
indextools - The Index Tools plug-in used by FrameMaker 6.x

FrameMaker 7.x components:
indextools - The Index Tools plug-in used by FrameMaker 7.x

Installation
------------
Perform the following steps to install Index Tools for Sun Solaris:
1. Decide where you want the plug-in to be located and copy it there.  
   Remember this location.
   
2. Add an entry describing your client to the
   $FMHOME/fminit/UILanguage/APIArea/apiclients file, where
   UILanguage is a user-interface language directory. For example, if youŐre
   using the US English version of a FrameMaker product, you edit the file
   $FMHOME/fminit/usenglish/APIArea/apiclients. The entry should look
   like the following:
   
   <APIclient
   <Name indextools>
       <CommandLine xxxxx>
   >
   
   Replace the xxxxxx with the complete path to the indextools 
   executable. This is the location you decided in step 1.
   
3. Restart FrameMaker.

IXStyle.fm document
-------------------
If you are using the Sun Solaris version of Index Tools, save the IXStyle.fm
file in the ŇfminitÓ directory where you have FrameMaker installed. You
could also save the IXStyle.fm file in each userŐs home directory.

Shareware notice
----------------
Index Tools is shareware. If you find Index Tools useful, please pay 
the shareware fee. The $10 cost is minimal, given the amount of time 
that Index Tools can save! Paying the shareware fee also encourages 
development of other tools like Index Tools.

Kagi, a shareware payment service, handles payment processing for 
Index Tools. Ordinarily, a registration application is used to
create an electronic or paper document that can be sent to them indicating
the form of payment. Unfortunately, this application is available only for
Windows and the Macintosh. It is _not_ available for Solaris. To register
Index Tools, we recommend that you download either the Macintosh or Windows
version of Index Tools, then use the Register application that comes in
either package. If you are unable to use either register using the 
Macintosh or Windows versions of Register, you may want to register 
online through the Silicon Prairie web site:
