Welcome to Alert Tool. Alert Tool is a FrameMaker plug-in that allows 
you to automatically display a message when a FrameMaker document is 
opened. The content of the message is based on a variable added to 
the FrameMaker document.

Installation
------------
Perform the following steps to install Alert Tool for Sun Solaris:
1. Decide where you want the plug-in to be located and copy the appropriate
   version there. Remember this location.
   
2. Add an entry describing your client to the
   $FMHOME/fminit/UILanguage/APIArea/apiclients file, where
   UILanguage is a user-interface language directory. For example, if youÕre
   using the US English version of a FrameMaker product, you edit the file
   $FMHOME/fminit/usenglish/APIArea/apiclients. The entry should look
   like the following:
   
  <APIclient
     <Name alerttool>
     <CommandLine xxxxx>
  >
  
  Replace the xxxxxx with the complete path to the alerttool 
  executable. This is the location you decided in step 1.

Shareware notice
----------------
Alert Tool is shareware. If you find Alert Tool useful, please pay the 
shareware fee. Paying the shareware fee also encourages development of 
other tools like Alert Tool.

Kagi, a shareware payment service, handles payment processing for 
Alert Tool. Ordinarily, a registration application is used to
create an electronic or paper document that can be sent to them indicating
the form of payment. Unfortunately, this application is available only for
Windows and the Macintosh. It is _not_ available for Solaris. To register
Alert Tool, we recommend that you download either the Macintosh or Windows
version of Alert Tool, then use the Register application that comes in
either package. If you are unable to use either register using the 
Macintosh or Windows versions of Register, you may want to register 
online through the Silicon Prairie web site:
